Project AWARE

The Student Services/Prevention and Wellness Team was recently awarded another five year, $9 million grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) to continue work in Project AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education). Through targeted efforts with three LEA sites, the primary objectives associated with the project include advancing the following on a statewide level:

  • Increasing awareness of mental health issues among school-aged youth.
  • Providing training for school personnel and other adults who interact with school-aged youth to detect and respond to mental health issues.
  • Connecting school-aged youth, who may have behavioral health issues and their families to needed services.
  • Focusing on partnerships and collaboration between state and local systems to promote the healthy development of school-aged youth and prevent youth violence.
