What is meant by scope of assessments?

Scope of assessments describes an on-going process with the ultimate goal to improve student achievement. This section describes three methods and levels of assessment, their uses, and the role of users in the assessment process.

The scope of assessment measures means that a district will need to think systemically about assessment. A good place to begin is to chart the districts current assessment plan. It will be important to list the range of district, school, and classroom level assessments offered to students K-12. The completed chart provides a means to look for gaps and overlaps in the assessment system.

A good assessment system is cyclical. An example of the "Information Cycle" and an example of the "Three Tiers of District Assessment" are provided as graphics on the following two pages.
