Educator Misconduct - Investigation Process

The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) conducts formal investigations of licensed educators based on information received by the DPI that alleges immoral conduct on the part of the licensed educator.

Such investigations are typically based on complaints received by DPI from three primary sources:

  • Written reports from school districts under statutory reporting requirements
  • Complaints from citizens/parents
  • News/media reports

Investigation Process

After a credential holder is placed under investigation, the formal investigation process begins. The steps of this process can be found at Educator Misconduct Investigation Procedures Overview.
