Wisconsin School Health Profiles

The School Health Profiles (formally known as School Health Education Profiles or SHEP) is conducted as part of a national effort by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to monitor the current status of school health programs. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) uses the School Health Profiles to monitor the current status of school health education; school health policies related to HIV infection/AIDS, tobacco use prevention, unintentional injuries and violence, physical activity, and food service; physical education; asthma management activities; and family and community involvement in school health programs.

The principal and lead health teacher School Health Profile questionnaires were developed by CDC and were administered to a sample of Wisconsin middle/junior high schools and high schools in 1996, 1998, 2002, and 2004. The lead physical education teacher questionnaire was developed by DPI in collaboration with state and national agencies and organizations and was first administered in 2004.
