School Counseling Consultant




The Department of Public Instruction's school counseling consultant is an integral member of the Student Services, Prevention and Wellness team (SSPW). The consultant is responsible for the provision of expert leadership, consultation and technical assistance activities to local school districts, state and local agencies, parents and interest groups regarding comprehensive school counseling programs and collaborative pupil services. This includes assisting school districts in the implementation of federal, state and local policies related to school counseling services, counselor licensing, career and technical education, after-school academic and youth development programs, community learning centers, children at risk, pupil records, comprehensive school health programs, youth risk behavior prevention, child development, compulsory attendance, and other issues involving school, home, and community collaboration.

The consultant is also responsible for providing leadership and consultative assistance to colleges and universities, professional organizations and other interest groups regarding pre-service preparation and continuing professional development for school counseling personnel.
