21st Century Community Learning Centers (CLC)

Register Now for the 2009 Fall 21st CCLC Grantee Conference!

When: October 14, 2009
Where: Kalahari Resort and Conference Center in WI Dells

Each year 21st Century Community Learning Center grantees are invited to participate in a fall conference. This is a great opportunity to network and learn from other programs throughout WI.

DPI encourages each grantee (not site) to bring a team of three to the event. This is a one day event. However, for those who would like to drive up the evening before, DPI has a block of rooms on hold until September 13, 2009 – just ask for the Department of Public Instruction – DPI Room Block to receive a reduced rate.

This year the keynote speaker will be Peter Maier, Associate Scientist, Center for Urban Initiatives and Research, UW-Milwaukee. He brings a breadth of knowledge on the trends and research surrounding youth engagement in afterschool settings. In addition, there will be 8 sectionals, student and parent presentations, and network meetings. Vendors will be on hand to share the latest in resources.

Each participant must register separately. You are asked to indicate what sectionals you plan to attend.

To register click on the link below. The agenda and other details, including sectional descriptions, will be found by clicking on this link.

For logistic questions, please contact Linda Piefer at DPI, linda.piefer@dpi.wi.gov. For all other inquiries, contact Stan Potts, stan.potts@dpi.wi.gov.

Note: This event is for WI CLC grantees ONLY

Title I Funds able to be used to support Extended Learning Opportunities

The recent passage of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) will lead to a significant increase in the availability of Title I funds. A memo to CLC program coordinators from the office of Assistant State Superintendent Carolyn Stanford Taylor explains how these funds may be used in support of after-school programs and other extended learning opportunities.

On March 30, 2009, DPI hosted a Wisline-Web conference to review the appropriate use of Title I funds to support afterschool activities. A PDF of the PowerPoint presentation can be found here.
