Title I and School Support

Title I Supplemental Grants

Title I: Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged Part A: Improving Basic Programs Operated by Local Educational Agencies Subpart 1: Basic Program Requirements Federal Law: 20USC§1116

Overview

The purpose of the Title I Supplemental Grants, authorized by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001(NCLB), Title I, Section 1003(a) and (g), is to provide public school districts with additional funds and resources to help them develop and improve efforts to support their eligible Title I schools. Implicit in these grants is the recognition that all Wisconsin districts have existing resources and programs that support the student achievement of its neediest school(s). These grants are intended to supplement existing district efforts and strengthen district support. The grant application is structured around two goals: 1) addressing the needs of the eligible Title I schools based on adequate yearly progress (AYP) indicators and local data, and 2) providing district support for these schools.

For school year 2009-10, additional Title I Supplemental funds are available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) for both Title I, Section 1003 (a) and (g).

Program Elements

•   Use of Characteristics of Successful Districts or other district framework and AYP School Review Summary Reports, supported by local data to drive district and school improvement efforts.
