Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)
Vision

Following are some ideas for students who are blind or visually impaired that may help improve performance on standardized tests:

  • Provide adequate space for students (Braille or enlarged print materials are much bigger than the regular materials)
  • Provide appropriate lighting
  • Allowing extended time
  • Provide access to magnification devices and assistive technology
  • Provide access to large print tests and/or Braille tests
  • Have manipulatives available (especially for the math portion)
  • Allow portions of the test to be read to a student who is not Braille proficient due to recent loss of vision
  • Provide appropriate seating arrangements
  • Have a scribe available to transfer the student's answers to the answer sheet.
  • Give verbal cues to help the student identify the correct section of the test so that answers are recorded in the right place.
