Sent: Thursday, November 10, 2011 9:27 AM To - District Administrators and Open Enrollment Coordinators From - Merry Larsen, Open Enrollment Consultant Subject - New on DPI Open Enrollment Web Site -- Suggested Formats for Notices of Denial of Continued Open Enrollment We have created new suggested formats for school districts to use when notifying parents of currently open enrolled students that their child's continued open enrollment has been denied and that the child is being required to return to his/her resident district. The letters can be found on the open enrollment web site under the topic of "DPI Bulletins and Suggested Formats" at http://dpi.wi.gov/sms/infscdst.html. These letters can be used when a currently open enrolled student's IEP is developed or revised and the student is required to return to the resident district: 1. By the resident district because the special education costs resulting from the student's new or revised IEP would represent an undue financial burden on the resident district; or 2. By the nonresident district because the special education services required in the student's new or revised IEP are not available in the nonresident school district; or 3. By the nonresident district because space is not available in the special education services required in the student's new or revised IEP. Please note that each letter requires the school district to indicate the date on which the student's IEP was developed or revised IEP and provide additional information in an attachment. If you have any questions, please contact me. Merry M. Larsen School Administration Consultant Department of Public Instruction (608) 266-2146 merry.larsen@dpi.wi.gov
