3RD FRIDAY LIST IS LOCKED
 
The 3rd Friday list is now locked.   No further entries can be made from that list.  
 
To change a resident district’s agree or disagree status, send a request to me or Merry Larsen.    We will make this 
change when we have time to do so.  
 
 
THE DATA ARE NOT LOCKED
 
However, the data are not locked.   Changes may still be made, but must be made for each student individually.  
 
--To enter or change OE or NOT OE:  Click on the student’s name.  Click on Change Enrollment.  Click on Edit.  
Change the 3rd Friday from Y to N (or vice versa).  Enter, delete or correct the FTE, as necessary.   Save.   Once the 
other district accepts the change, OPAL will be updated.  
 
--To change the student’s grade:  Click on the student’s name.  Click on Change Enrollment.  Click on Edit.  Change 
the Grade.  Change the FTE if necessary.  Save. 
 
--To make a resident district change that will be effective in the 2012-13 school year:   Click on the student’s name.  
Click on Change Enrollment.  Click on Edit.  Change the resident district for next year (3rd field down).  Save.   You 
should also change the student’s address under the Change Parents/Addr tab.  
 
--To make a resident district change that is effective in the current (2011-12) school year.  Contact me or Merry 
Larsen (merry.larsen@dpi.wi.gov).   Hopefully, there are not very many more of these.  
 
 
MISSING INFORMATION IN OPAL
 
When data prior to 2008-09 was uploaded into OPAL, many records did not contain student’s birthdates, addresses, 
parent information or other contact information.   As you have time (?!?), please enter this missing information, as it 
will be helpful for the other school district.  
 
Mailing Addresses and Street Addresses:  When you enter or make an address change, please enter both a mailing 
and a street address (even if they are the same).     These addresses might be downloaded by the DPI or the other 
district for different purposes, so they need to be in the right field.    You can copy information from one field to 
another as follows:   Once you enter information in the field, click on CTRL-A, then CTRL-C.   Put your cursor in the 
field you want to copy to, then click on CTRL-V.  
 
 
SMALL OPAL GLITCH
 
Any time a change is made to the Change Enrollment section, OPAL enters “0000” in the “resident district for next 
year” field.    Please ignore this.  “0000” is simply code for “nothing.”   It means nothing and changes nothing.    We 
will fix this glitch when we are able to do so.  
 
 
LIST SERVE NOTICES
 
All list serve notices are also put on the open enrollment web site at http://dpi.wi.gov/sms/oelistserv.html.  If you 
believe you might have missed a notice, you can check there.   If you find you are not receiving list serve notices, 
first check your spam filter.   If it was blocked by your spam filter, please contact your IT person to allow the notices 
to get through.   Then contact me.   If it was blocked, it might also be in “hold” status here.   If it was not in your spam 
filter, contact me.   We may have the wrong email, or it might have bounced back in the past for some unknown 
reason, or you might not be on the list serve.  
 
If you are not on the list serve and wish to be on it, please contact me and I will add you.  If you are on the list serve 
and do not want to be on it, please contact me and I will delete your email.  
 
 
REQUEST
 
It would be very helpful if you included your name contact information in your email messages to us.   Sometimes 
we get an unsigned message from an email address that does not include enough information to know who sent it.    
There is a feature in Outlook that allows you to create a signature block that will appear on your outgoing messages.  
This would really be helpful to us.
