Sent: Wednesday, September 21, 2011 10:38 AM To – District Administrators and Open Enrollment Coordinators From – Mary Jo Cleaver, Open Enrollment Consultant Subject – Entering Third Friday Data in OPAL In response to a number of requests, I am sending the following information/reminder about entering 3rd Friday data into OPAL: 1. 3rd Friday information is entered into OPAL via the 3rd Friday in September tab in Students. 2. The first entry (OE or NOT OE) must be made by the nonresident school district. ***These entries must be made by the end of the day on September 26.*** At that time, the 3rd Friday list will be frozen and it will be much more work for districts to enter this information separately for each student. Resident districts are waiting for this information, so the sooner the nonresident district is able to enter it, the better. 3. Once the nonresident district has entered the attending/not attending information, the resident district must go into OPAL and agree or disagree. If the resident district disagrees, the districts must follow up to resolve the issue. Nonresident districts are waiting for the agreement/disagreement, so the sooner the resident district is able to enter it, the better. 4. While it is important for districts to get this information into OPAL as soon as possible, it is also important to recognize that different districts have different issues in gathering data and getting it entered. I will be monitoring OPAL and will follow up with districts that have not logged into OPAL recently. 5. As far as OPAL is concerned, a student either IS or IS NOT open enrolled on the third Friday. If the student is not open enrolled, OPAL does not need any more information. Especially, DO NOT, change a resident district or withdraw a student that has not attended under open enrollment in this school year. 6. The student’s open enrollment resident district is the district in which the student resides on the third Friday in September. This may have changed over the summer. Any changes in resident district that are effective in the 2011-12 school year must be made by me or by Merry Larsen. As always, please contact me or Merry Larsen (merry.larsen@dpi.wi.gov or 608-266-2146) if you have questions.
