Standards of the Heart

How do we help families learn about and promote standards of the heart?
In a recent DPI survey, over 60 per cent of Wisconsin residents questioned rated good work habits and values such as honesty as "absolutely essential" to public education. This section provides resources to support parents as they help their children to become caring, contributing, productive and responsible citizens.

Ideas to consider:

  • engage families and the community in a process to identify community core values such as respect and responsibility
  • Provide parents with ideas for activities they can do at home to reinforce the core values.
  • Contact parents early in the year. Introduce yourself and let them know you are available and interested in their child.
  • Provide opportunities for parents to provide feedback to you about how students are modeling core values at home.
