3. STEM grants available

Schools have until May 1 to submit applications for 2008-09 STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) funding, provided for the first time by the current state budget.

The grants are designed to help school districts develop innovative instructional programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics; support pupils who are typically underrepresented in these subjects; and increase the academic achievement of pupils in those subjects.

School districts may submit an unlimited number of applications. Grants are for up to $5,000 per application, with a total amount of $61,500 available. Funds must be expended between July 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009.

More information and the application are available on-line.
