2. Anne Henderson at Parent Leadership Conference

Nationally-recognized author and education policy consultant Anne Henderson will offer keynote remarks at the annual Parent Leadership Conference on Thursday, May 15, at the Olympia Resort and Conference Center in Oconomowoc. Henderson, an expert in parent and family engagement, is author of numerous books, including A New Generation of Evidence and Beyond the Bake Sale. Currently serving as Senior Fellow with the Community Involvement Program at the Annenberg Institute for School Reform, Anne will offer indispensable, down-to-earth wisdom about how family engagement can enhance learning in Wisconsin schools.

The theme for the 2008 conference is "Strengthening Partnerships to Achieve Student Success." Participants will learn to involve families in meaningful collaborations that build positive and trusting relationships, are child-centered, and enhance learning at home and in the community. Two featured topics are asset-mapping and conflict resolution. The conference is sponsored by the DPI and Parents Plus. Teams from Title I schools, REACh schools, VISTA schools, and any school or district seeking to improve through partnerships with families are encouraged to attend.

Register ($15/person) or download an agenda or flyer on-line. For more information, call DPI staff Jane Grinde, 608-266-9356, or Shirley Moutry, 414-227-1846.
