3. Gifted and talented grants

State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster awarded 12 Gifted and Talented Education Grants to 11 agencies throughout Wisconsin. The grants, ranging in amounts from $15,000 to $26,400, will support gifted and talented programs for students throughout the state.

"Gifted and high potential youth need challenges that help them extend their understanding, develop their talents, and keep them engaged in their own learning," Burmaster said. "These grants will help educators provide appropriate services so our students can reach their full potential."

Grants will support activities in the state's cooperative educational service agencies (CESAs), non-profit agencies, and Milwaukee Public Schools. Recipients include CESA 2, CESA 3, CESA 4, CESA 5, CESA 6, CESA 7, CESA 10, Milwaukee Public Schools, Positive Alternatives, Wisconsin Association for Talented and Gifted, and Wisconsin Center for Academically Talented Youth.

"We must recognize the unique needs of our gifted and talented youth, and it is important for our schools to identify gifted and talented students, especially those from under-represented groups," Burmaster said. "The goal of our New Wisconsin Promise is to provide a quality education for every child, and these grants offer important support for gifted and talented education programs."
