4. Multi-state wrestling, cheerleading competition

The Wisconsin School for the Visually Handicapped (WSVH) hosted the North Central Association of Schools for the Blind Wrestling and Cheerleading Conference competition in Janesville last month.

Twelve state schools for the blind participated, with 173 athletes and more than 200 visitors attending. Coaches and athletes traveled from Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Tennessee for the competition. The weekend also featured many social opportunities in addition to the athletic competition, including a dance on Saturday night.

WSVH and the Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired are part of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. The school and center provide educational services throughout the state to children who are blind or visually impaired.
