6. Student opportunities: safety campaign, climate change, and moreSome current opportunities for students: School-wide teams develop multimedia advertising campaigns to raise awareness of teen driving and safety issues in a competition sponsored by the Children’s Health Education Center. Ten high schools in Wisconsin will be selected to develop a campaign using media such as podcasting, digital video, PowerPoint presentations, and website design. Application deadline is February 1. The Global Challenge brings together international teams of high school students who work together over the Internet to identify a solution to a problem posed by climate change and the future of energy. Two competition tracks focus, respectively, on technical innovation and business planning. Register by February 1. The National WWII Museum invites competitors in its annual High School On-Line Essay Contest and Middle School Art Contest. The 2008 theme is "Teamwork, Community, and Victory." The Museum only accepts the first 500 submissions for each contest, which it usually receives before the March 28 deadline. Job Corps, the nation’s oldest and largest federally funded residential job training and education program, invites young adults ages 16 through 24 to apply for its residential program. Students live on centers, much like small college campuses, and receive job training in over 40 different areas. An HSED, GED, or High School diploma may be earned through the program. It is administered by the U.S. Department of Labor. More information is available online or by calling 800-733-JOBS.
