4. Youth with disabilities will benefit from federal grant (Subscriber submission!)

Wisconsin Family Assistance Center for Education, Training & Support (WI FACETS) has received a three-year grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support the group's work serving Southeastern Wisconsin children and adults with disabilities, their families, and those who support them.

The grant will support a week-long leadership summit at which youth with developmental disabilities, ages 13-30, will receive intensive training on such topics as pursuing postsecondary education, transitioning from school to work, money management, and self-advocacy.

The project will work with an advisory board which is to include young adults with developmental disabilities, and a teacher. The group is currently seeking youth to volunteer for the board, which will meet at least once per year.

Other activities of WI FACETS include informational evenings for parents and families, and information and referral services.

For more information, contact WI FACETS at 1-877-374-0511.
