7. Service-Learning Institute, other upcoming events

Highlights from the DPI's Wisconsin Education Calendar:

On February 20 in Brookfield, the State Superintendent and Wisconsin Campus Compact's PK-16 Institute for Service-Learning and Citizenship focuses on using high quality service-learning programs to develop 21st century skills. Open to educators and students at any level (a special youth track caters to K-12 students), the institute features national experts and speakers. WEAC is offering full scholarships for teachers and students on a first come, first served basis--the first 100 WEAC members to register for the conference will automatically receive a scholarship for themselves and up to two students.

Upcoming Wisconsin School Observance Days include Martin Luther King, Jr., Day (January 15), Abraham Lincoln's Birthday (February 12), Susan B. Anthony's Birthday (February 15), and George Washington's Birthday (February 22). Wisconsin School Observance Days can be part of a rich social studies curriculum. (See the Educational Communications Board website for resources related to each Wisconsin School Observance Day.)

Read Across America Day is March 3, 2008.
