6. Radio production activity/contest

Every year the Wisconsin Educational Communications Board and Wisconsin Public Radio give students in grades 3-12 a chance to express creative talent, develop technology and media skills, and win money for their schools.

The occasion is the SoundWaves-Wisconsin Youth Radio Festival. In this radio competition, students create their own productions in the categories of Public Service Announcement, Interview Program, Original Drama, Documentary, and Adaptation. Winners get the opportunity to recreate their program for broadcast on Wisconsin Public Radio.

SoundWaves is also an activity that teachers can integrate into a range of curricula.

Students may work individually or in groups. Entries must be postmarked by Thursday, January 31.
