4. Early deadlines for principals conferences approachThis year's conferences for Elementary, Middle Level, High School, and Associate Principals, presented by the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators, take place in January and February. The conferences' "advance deadlines" for discounted early registration fall in late December and early January. The High School Principals Conference occurs January 31 through February 1 in Madison, addressing the theme of "Meeting Today's Challenges." State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster will deliver an address, and announce the 2008 Wisconsin High School Principals of the Year. Keynote speeches include "Using Standards & Assessments to Improve Student Learning at the High School Level," by Thomas Guskey, and "Motivating Reluctant Learners," by Rick Smith. The Associate Principals Conference takes place February 6-8 in Appleton. This year's program is "The Three Rs rewritten: Relationships, Relevance, Respect." Featured keynote presentations include "Developing Relationships and Engaging Multiple Stakeholders," by Steve Edwards, "Connectedness and Personalization," by Darrell "Coach D" Andrews, and "Legal Issues Impacting Associate Principals," by Kirk Strang. Early registration for these two conferences ends December 31. The Elementary Principals Conference takes place February 12-13 in Stevens Point, with the theme of "Leading for Learning." Keynote addresses include "Building a School that Gets Results," by Elaine McEwan, "Lessons Learned: Implementing Differentiated Instruction," by Betty Hollas, and "People Power," by Deborah Estes. The Middle Level Principals Conference happens immediately afterward, February 13-15, in the same Stevens Point venue. State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster will give a speech, and announce the 2008 Wisconsin Middle School Principals of the Year. Keynote presentations include "Engaging Your Staff: 20 Brain-Based Learning Strategies for Powerful and Meaningful Staff Interaction," by Marcia Tate, "Making an Impact: What Legacy Will You Leave Behind?" by Patti Kinney, and "Teacher Teams that Get Results: 61 Strategies for Sustaining and Renewing Professional Learning Communities," by Lin Kuzmich.
