2. New child abuse prevention publicationThe Department of Public Instruction has released a new publication to help educators understand their responsibilities in eliminating child abuse and neglect. The booklet will also serve as a tool for schools and county governments to enhance their collaboration in this area. "School's Role in Preventing Child Abuse and Neglect" describes the legal obligations of educators to report suspected child abuse and neglect, and explains the child protective services initial assessment process. The booklet also presents legal provisions for schools and counties to share confidential information. The 24-page publication has been approved by the Department of Health and Family Services as well as the DPI, and copies have been distributed to supervisors of county child protective services in Wisconsin, so that the booklet may function as the basis for a common language among educators and social service providers. "School's Role in Preventing Child Abuse and Neglect" is available on-line at http://www.dpi.state.wi.us/sspw/doc/sswchildabuse.doc. For a paper copy, email Jackie Brashi at the DPI, jackie.brashi@dpi.state.wi.us. "School's Role in Preventing Child Abuse and Neglect": http://www.dpi.state.wi.us/sspw/doc/sswchildabuse.doc ![]()
