6. Reading comprehension website

The online component of the reading comprehension resource "Into the Book" now features five interactive activities.

Designed to let students practice higher-level thinking skills while learning them in class, the activities are called "Using Prior Knowledge," "Making Connections," "Questioning," "Visualizing," and "Inferring."

"Into the Book" also includes a video series for classroom use and a companion professional development video series entitled "Behind the Lesson." The Wisconsin Educational Communications Board developed the resources in partnership with a team of experienced educators and the Department of Public Instruction, which allocated federal Reading First dollars to support the project.

To get a copy of the "Into the Book" and "Behind the Lesson" videos, record them when they are broadcast by your local Wisconsin Public Television station (broadcasts began September 5th). For complete broadcast schedules, see http://reading.ecb.org/teacher/getthevideo.html.
