Wisconsin students become presidential scholars

Three students from Wisconsin are among 141 recently named Presidential Scholars, one of the nation's highest honors for graduating seniors.

"Students who are chosen as Presidential Scholars are representative of the thousands of outstanding seniors who will be graduating from Wisconsin high schools in the coming weeks," said State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster. "These individuals are among the highest academic and artistic achieving students in our state and nation."

Presidential Scholars in Wisconsin are Katrina R. Galka of Whitefish Bay, Dominican High School, a Presidential Scholar in the Arts; Robert A. Marsland III, St. Ambrose Academy, Madison; and Mallery R. Olsen, Memorial High School, Madison.

The three, along with teachers they named in their applications as their most inspiring and challenging, will travel to Washington, D.C. for National Recognition Week, June 23-27. They will meet with government officials, educators, authors, musicians, scientists, and other dignitaries, and receive Presidential Scholars Medallions at a ceremony sponsored by the White House.
