Call for Proposals: 2008 New Wisconsin Promise Conference

The fourth annual New Wisconsin Promise Conference will take place January 14-16, 2008 , in Madison , with the theme, "Meeting the Needs of All Learners." Teachers, principals, and support staff are encouraged to submit proposals for presentations. This is your opportunity to share practices, programs, and strategies that have made an impact on student learning and education. Proposals must be submitted online no later than September 14, 2007 . The conference proposal form link is on the main conference web page at http://dpi.wi.gov/nwp/conference.html. New this year, attendees may also apply to present posters, rather than presentations, about relevant topics and activities. Proposals for school music groups to perform for the conference are also welcome.

Keynote speakers this year will include University of Massachusetts Professor Sonia Nieto, whose research areas have included multicultural and bilingual education; Cheryl Brown Henderson, who will discuss the educational impact of civil rights advances like the landmark case named after her father, Brown v. The Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas; and 2006 National Teacher of the Year Kimberly Oliver, who has profoundly impacted her school and neighborhood through her love of reading and her focus on individualized education.

To attend the conference, register online at the main conference web page, http://dpi.wi.gov/nwp/conference.html, in August or later. In 2007, the event reached capacity quickly, so please consider registering early.
