Ladysmith students perform original musicThe WISC (Wisconsin Integrated Student Creations) Kids, a vocal group from Ladysmith Middle School, performed original music to open the New Wisconsin Promise Conference on January 9. Students performed songs about the history and State of Wisconsin, including state symbols, French explorers, and Wisconsin government. A special song composed for the conference, called New Promise In Me, was featured during the recital. Click on the song title links above to play audio of this original music. This music is used to teach Wisconsin history, and incorporates critical thinking skills, music, and art. Original music for the performance was composed by Mario and Sherry Friedel. Mario Friedel is the elementary principal and superintendent of the Ladysmith-Hawkins School District, and an accomplished musician, composer, and educator. Sherry Friedel is an elementary and middle school music teacher, a co-producer and composer with her husband, and director of the WISC Kids. The Friedels’ original song, New Promise in Me, was inspired by the tireless efforts of educators in the Ladysmith-Hawkins School District in nurturing and helping students learn. The WISC Kids have previously performed for the Wisconsin General Assembly in honor of a local soldier who received a Purple Heart award. Ladysmith Middle School won a New Wisconsin Promise Schools of Recognition Award in 2006. A photo gallery of the NWP conference and the Ladysmith Middle School WISC Kids is available.
