Parker grad named national FFA award winner

Former Parker High School student Scott Patrick Skelly, Parker FFA member, was named the national winner of the Outdoor Recreation – Entrepreneurship/Placement Proficiency Award Program at the 79th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis recently.

Skelly, son of Thomas and Cheryl Skelly of Janesville, is currently attending UW-Platteville. He graduated from Parker High School in June. The project which earned Scott this award is his business designing and cutting corn mazes for farmers around the world. His first maze attracted 500 visitors, and it now attracts more than 10,000. He has also published a book detailing steps to creating a successful corn maze.

The Proficiency Awards recognize FFA members who excelled as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience. Outdoor Recreation – Entrepreneurship/ Placement is one of 51 FFA proficiency award categories offered at local, state, and national levels. The award program is sponsored by GM Powertrain and Justin Brands, as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.

FFA is a national youth organization of 490,017 student members preparing for leadership careers in the science, business, and technology of agriculture, with 7,210 local chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. FFA strives to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
