College Board announces Chinese Guest Teacher Program

The College Board has announced a new Chinese Guest Teacher Program beginning in January 2007. The program is being developed through a partnership with Hanban, the Office of Chinese Language Council International in the Ministry of Education in China. The program will provide qualified language teachers from China to work in Wisconsin schools or districts at minimal cost, helping them build a Chinese program efficiently and affordably. Schools will be able to launch a new Chinese language and culture program, or expand their current Chinese programs to new schools and add course levels.

Some benefits for K-12 schools or districts that serve as host institutions include:

Participating schools or districts do not pay the guest teachers' salary. Teachers will receive a monthly stipend from Hanban.

Guest teachers will work full-time in a school or district for up to three years to help develop a Chinese program.

Guest teachers bring excellent qualifications, including certification from China and a minimum of three years of experience.

Guest teachers also will serve as cultural resources for local communities.

Students will have the opportunity to learn Chinese from native speakers.

Schools or districts will help build the pipeline of students for AP(R) Chinese in the future.

The number of available teachers is limited. Applications will be accepted and reviewed immediately, and will be open until all the guest teachers are placed. Interested schools are encouraged to apply immediately to host a highly qualified guest teacher directly from China, starting in January 2007.
