Goethe Institut seminar invites applicantsSocial Studies and World Language Educators are invited to apply for a Train-the-Trainers leadership seminar at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on September 16. The seminar will focus on how to internationalize the curriculum using Germany as a case study. A 50/50 mix of Wisconsin Social Studies and German Language educators will be selected for attendance. The seminar is being offered in cooperation with the Transatlantic Outreach Program of Goethe-Institut Atlanta, the Wisconsin Council for the Social Studies, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, the Max Kade Institute, UW-Madison Center for European Studies, American Association of Teachers of German – Wisconsin Chapter, and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Department of Foreign Languages and Linguistics. The Goethe-Institut is the German cultural center dedicated to teaching German culture and language. Dr. Michael Nentwich, the director of Goethe Institut Transatlantic Outreach Program, will lead the program. There is no registration fee for the workshop, but applicants must apply and receive their confirmation back by August 28. Participants will be provided a continental breakfast and lunch on Saturday, and a comprehensive set of instructional materials including lesson plans, and supplementary materials including wall maps and posters. Participants who are accepted as qualified trainers and who must travel more than 100 miles will be eligible for pre-paid or reimbursed hotel accommodations. Following the workshop training, each participant is expected to conduct two workshops using the materials provided. The participant materials will be provided at no charge. Suggested workshop venues include future presentations at such organizations as the Wisconsin State Council for the Social Studies; Wisconsin Association for Language Teachers, American Association of Teachers of German meetings, international education conferences, Wisconsin Education Association Council or Northwest Wisconsin Education Association conventions; reading conferences; district staff development days; local school faculty meetings; or other venues. For teachers working on their PI-34 Professional Development Plan, please consider adding your conference participation and subsequent curriculum development and presentations to your plan. To apply for the Train the Trainers Workshop, complete the application form by August 28 and return it by mail, fax, or e-mail attachment.
