DPI wins USDA Building for the Future Award

Every two years, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) selects up to five agencies to receive a Building for the Future Award to recognize excellence in administration of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The awards recognize outstanding state agency and sponsoring organization practices that go beyond basic regulatory requirements, leading to highly efficient, effective, and accessible nutrition programs.

USDA selected the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s Community Nutrition Program to receive the National Award for Program Integrity. In making the award, the USDA noted that “Wisconsin improved the application and approval process for participation in the CACFP. It developed procedures to include all components of the integrity rule through the following procedures: on-site visit prior to approval of new institution; standardization of application checklists and letters; and a budget approval process for sponsoring organizations. Consequently, Wisconsin achieved a high level of consistency in approving the application, management plan, and administrative budget.”

USDA may confer one state agency award and one sponsoring organization award in five categories: Enhancing Program Efficiency Through Technology, Innovative Training and Technical Assistance, Outreach and Community Partnerships, Program Integrity, and Nutrition Education and Promotion.
