Applications available for study in Thailand and Vietnam

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction seeks 20 Wisconsin K-16 educators to participate in a five week Fulbright-Hays Group Seminar Abroad exploring heritage, curriculum, and culture in Thailand and Vietnam.

The summer of 2006 will be the third consecutive summer that the DPI, in conjunction with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, has sponsored a seminar program to Southeast Asia for Wisconsin educators. This year seminar participants will include the UW-Whitewater, UW-Oshkosh, and UW-Stevens Point. The summer travel dates for the group seminar to Thailand and Vietnam have been set for June 13 - July 18. The deadline for application is Wednesday, March 15. Applicants will pay only $650 for orientations, and limited additional expenses, while remaining costs such as international airfare, meals, lodging, seminars, Thai and Vietnam in-country travel, entrance fees, and field trips will be covered by a Fulbright grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

An application is available on the DPI website. Applications can also be requested from Carol Stricker, (608) 267-9274 or carol.stricker@dpi.state.wi.us.

Applications are welcome from K-12 teachers, including social studies and English Language Learner teachers; education administrators, counselors, media staff, university-level education instructors, and technical college staff. Applicants with speaking ability in Thai, Hmong, or Vietnamese are especially welcome to apply. The seminar is contingent upon DPI receiving final grant approval from U.S. Department of Education.
