Marshall Middle School earns governor’s award

Marshall Middle School has been named the recipient of the Gold Prize in the Governor’s School Health Award. Marshall Middle School is the only school in the state to receive the top prize. The award, which signifies the school’s extraordinary efforts to promote nutrition, wellness, physical activity, and health education, was presented to Marshall students and staff by First Lady Jessica Doyle. Marshall received a gold star plaque for the schools’ sidewalk.

The Governor’s School Health Award Program allows Wisconsin schools, both public and private, to apply for an award based on established criteria, receive recognition for their accomplishments, and share their success stories. In addition, schools will have access to multiple national and state resources to support their efforts to develop a successful school health program.

In order to earn the Gold award, a school must meet the highest objectives in all twelve categories on the criteria chart. The categories are: School Health Advisory Council, School Wellness Policy, Physical Activity and Movement, Physical Activity Standards/Curriculum, Physical Activity Advocacy, School Breakfast, School Meals, Nutrition Education, All Food and Beverages available at School, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Prevention, and Parent and School Partnership.
