1. On the roadState Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster attended meetings of the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) Board on Monday, February 25 and Tuesday, February 26. The Board discussed the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act State Plan and Funding Guidelines for 2008-09, and the Wisconsin Apprenticeship Program. Also on Tuesday, February 26, State Superintendent Burmaster attended the annual State of the Tribes Address, given by Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council President Bob Chicks at the Wisconsin Capitol. On Wednesday, February 27, State Superintendent Burmaster, along with Governor Jim Doyle and Commerce Secretary Jack Fisher, presented Wisconsin Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards to Natasha Holmes of Madison West High School and Hannah Iverson of Plum City High School. Holmes owns a jewelry business, Natasha Nicole Jewelry, while Iverson runs an agricultural enterprise including selling herd reproduction services of her cattle. On Friday, February 29, State Superintendent Burmaster was back in Madison to meet with a delegation of Russian educators who came to Wisconsin through the U.S. Library of Congress Open World Program, which gives emerging leaders from Russia, Ukraine, and other post-Soviet states firsthand exposure to American democracy. ![]()
