On Thursday, January 31, State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster held a news conference with state Representative Gary Hebl and state Senator Julie Lassa, unveiling legislation to establish world language instruction in Wisconsin elementary schools. The event was held at Netherwood Knoll Elementary in the Oregon School District, where elementary world language instruction is being implemented next year. Photos of the event have been posted in the State Superintendent's on-line photo gallery.

Later that day, the state superintendent addressed the annual Senior High Conference of the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators, and presented the 2007 AWSA High School Principal of the Year award to Larry Haase of Menasha High School.

That evening, Burmaster and First Lady Jessica Doyle honored National Board Certified Teachers and Wisconsin Master Educators at the Wisconsin Executive Residence. 110 teachers recently earned the rigorous certification from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. 31 people earned Master Educator Licenses this year.

On Friday, February 1, the state superintendent traveled to Chippewa Falls for a meeting of the Cooperative Educational Service Agency (CESA) 10 Professional Advisory Council. Burmaster provided an update on education issues to these local education leaders.
