On Wednesday, December 5, Burmaster convened a meeting of her Forces for Four-Year-Olds Advisory Committee, which provides expertise on expanding four-year-old kindergarten (4K) in Wisconsin, and on community approaches with child care and Head Start. At this meeting, the group received an update on 4K expansion, reviewed a DPI guide to finances for four-year-old kindergartens, and examined the DPI's 4K startup grant program.

Thursday, December 6, saw the state superintendent in Wisconsin Dells to welcome participants to the Building the Heart of Successful Schools conference. The Department of Public Instruction holds this annual conference on student and educator health, safety, prevention, and wellness. At the conference, Burmaster presented the State Superintendent's Prevention Partner Awards (see article #3).

Later that day, Burmaster was back in the state's capital city, where as a member of the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents, she met with her fellow regents and received a tour of the UW-Madison's new Microbial Sciences Building. The building is the cornerstone of a larger initiative to ensure the continued national preeminence of microbiology at UW-Madison.

On Friday, December 7, the state superintendent participated in another meeting of the UW Board of Regents.
