WISCAT license renewals are not automatic and libraries must submit a new order form each year to have access to WISCAT. The 2008 WISCAT license fee is $200 per library login code. All WISCAT resource sharing functions that require a staff login are included in the $200 annual fee. Functions that require a staff login are:
- Customizing search and display screen options (i.e. scoping or holdings sorting)
- Adding, changing, or deleting holdings interactively in the Web union catalog
- Downloading MARC records from the union catalog
- Creating and submitting electronic interlibrary loan requests
- Creating and printing a formatted ILL request from the union catalog for submission via mail or fax
- Managing interlibrary loan requests in the WISCAT database
- Checking the status of individual ILL requests by either library staff or patrons
- Authorizing patron-initiated interlibrary loan requests
- Reviewing or printing interlibrary loan reports and statistics
- Accessing the WISCAT Z39.50 service from a local Z39.50 client
This license applies to each individual public library system, county library or county library branch, public library, school district, public or private school library media center (elementary, middle or high school), academic library, Wisconsin Technical College System campus library, special library, or other type of library. Branches of a city public library do not need to obtain a separate license if the main city library has purchased a license.
Libraries, public library systems, or school districts may not create interlibrary loan requests on behalf of another library unless the license fee has been paid by or for that library.
It is important to note that public search-only versions of WISCAT on the Web or via the Z39.50 Gateway will remain available at no cost.
There is no fee for adding holdings to the WISCAT database using a batch loading process; there is no cost for making a library's local catalog accessilble through the WISCAT Z39.50 Gateway.
There is no fee for participating in resource sharing as a "Lender Only" for filling interlibrary loan requests, either using the WISCAT interlibrary loan software or via email.
