New Wisconsin Promise Schools of Recognition


Title I Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged Part A Improving Basic Programs Operated by Local Education Agencies Subpart 1 Basic Program Requirements Federal Law 20USC§1117

Overview

Since 2003, State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster has recognized schools across the state as New Wisconsin Promise Schools of Recognition. As required by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, schools being recognized must

  • be Title I-eligible,
  • be in the top quartile of the state for the percentage of students receiving free/reduced lunch,
  • have above-average student academic performance on WKCE test scores in reading and mathematics when compared to similar schools, and
  • have met adequate yearly progress indicators for two or more consecutive years.

These schools are recognized during a ceremony held at the State Capitol in Madison.
