graphic: cover of teaching character education using children's literatureThe American Library Association (ALA) recently named Teaching Character Education Using Children's Literature one of its ALA Government Document Round Table Notable documents.

According to the ALA award, "This timely and well-organized publication is tailored for education professionals and parents. Sample features include teaching learning strategies and extensive bibliographies of literature for children and young adults. A "standard of the heart" is defined as the development of productive, responsible, caring, and contributing citizens."

The Notable Documents List was established by the American Library Association's Government Documents Roundtable in 1984 to "foster awareness of foreign, international, state, and local documents available in American libraries" and to "encourage nondepository library to acquire government publications."

The Wisconsin Government Information Roundtable gave this publication an honorable mention as a Distinguished Wisconsin Document published in 2001. It was then forwarded to the ALA committee for consideration as a notable document on their annual list of distinguished government documents.
