Description: I am a traditional storyteller and have been performing professionally since 1995. A typical storytelling performance usually opens with an age-appropriate introduction to storytelling: what it is, who does it, and where we find it. I might open up a dialog about what is a story and more about the ancient craft of storytelling. I would talk about the roles of the teller and the listeners and how as an audience they will have an opportunity to actively listen and actively imaginine. We often dialog more about what these tasks are, as it is appropriate. I then move into an imagination exercise, warming the audience up with a short, very visual tale. After that the stage is set to step into a series of folktales, wonder tales, legends, myths, and personal narratives selected from the vast repertoire of stories I've collected or researched over the years.

A typical performance lasts 45-60 minutes. Depending on a variety of factors ranging from a particular theme or topic, age, or grade level, there are various ways the children participate in each story beyond their actively listening and imagining. I can adapt and/or create a program to suit most any topic or theme. Some stories offer opportunities for call and response, some for helpers to come and assist me in the telling, and sometimes there are opportunities for the group to role play a part of the tale. As a traditional storyteller, I like to let the story tell itself. With some performances I use simple props that help the listeners step deeper into that story. Please visit my website to learn more about my storytelling and listen to a tale.

Performing Area: A space 6 to 8 feet in diameter
Requirements: A chair or stool. For more than 50 in the audience and depending on acoustics, a mike and PA system.
Fee: $175-$300 plus mileage.

Website: www.johnduggleby.com

Description: An award-winning author of eight children's books, Duggleby is also a versatile musician performing themed shows that can be customized to audience age range including:

America's Greatest Hits: A tuneful tour of the red, white and blues of our nation's unique musical heritage. Covered along the way are over two centuries of American music, ranging from Stephen Foster and George M. Cohan to Bruce Springsteen and Chuck Berry. Singing along is not only permitted, but encouraged! A variation of this program, All-American Classics, is geared to younger audiences with family-friendly songs and lots of interaction, even chicken dancing!

Circle of Life: This show covers the entire life cycle, from "Baby Face" to "Old Friends." Famous people as well as audience members whose birthday falls on the performance date are saluted. For older audiences I throw in some gentle humor about aging, including my song about reversing the process. Just because we grow older doesn't mean we have to grow up!

Sentimental Journey: Take a "Sentimental Journey" through the music and memories of the World War II era. From "Chattanooga Choo-Choo" to "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," participants enjoy favorites from the Hit Parade made famous by legends such as Glenn Miller, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and the Andrews Sisters, along with radio broadcasts from the World War II era.

Smilin' St. Paddy's Party: Everyone's Irish around March 17 including yours truly, who performs as Paddy O'Chair in a Celtic revue peppered with both familiar and lesser-known ballads and toe-tappers, as well as a golden pot of Irish and Scottish jokes.

Holiday Sing-Along: An end-of-year celebration featuring many songs people know and can sing, plus a few surprises. I can make lyric sheets available for reproduction for participants.

Dear Mom: A tuneful tribute of mother-themed songs for the ones who make the rest of us possible. Perfect for Mothers Day in May and Grandparents Day in September, but great for honoring those great ladies any time of year.

Love-Or Something Like It: A romantic revel in several types of affection, with an occasional sting from Cupid's arrows. I developed this show for Valentine's Day, but it is a fun stroll down Lover's Lane any time of year.

Performing Area: Approximately 6 by 12 feet
Requirements: Access to power
Fee: Starting at $125 plus mileage for more than 50 miles round trip.

Giebink, Bruce — The BUG Show

Contact: Bruce Giebink, 6676 Sandhill Dr, Lino Lakes MN 55014

Fax: (651) 780-8216
Email: bugzone@comcast.net
Website: www.brucethebugguy.net

Description: The BUG Show is a unique fast-paced, hands-on program that features LIVE bugs and various displays of unusual and spectacular insects from around the world. These and other fun props are used to introduce the audience to the amazing and hidden world of bugs — "the little things that run the world." LIVE critters typically include mouse-sized hissing roaches, millipedes, tarantulas, and scorpions. During the summer, local butterflies/moths, their caterpillars, and praying mantises are often added to this traveling "Bug Zoo." All species used are harmless. The hands-on and interactive nature of the program, kept lively with humor, fun props, and occasional "surprises," make it especially meaningful and enjoyable for people of all ages and abilities. Although the standard show is approximately an hour long, it can be easily adjusted to accommodate the age and size of the audience, as well as the individual needs of each school, library, or organization.

Dr. Bruce Giebink, a.k.a. Bruce The Bug Guy, is a professional entomologist experienced in working with audiences of all ages—especially children—in a variety of settings. For over 10 years, Dr. Giebink and his traveling Bug Zoo and Bug Museum have been reaching out to children of all ages. Dr. Giebink is fully aware of the many myths, misconceptions, and urban legends associated with insects and their kin and does his best to clear up many common misconceptions, such as the belief that all tarantulas are aggressive and deadly venomous. In general, people tend to be most afraid of (or least comfortable around) things they know little about or understand. So, by teaching people (especially children) that not only are most bugs harmless, but that they are an important part of the environment, he's able to dispel some of the fear and anxiety people have toward many insects and spiders.

During the summer, Bruce has extremely limited availability and typically schedules programs within 120 miles of St. Paul only.

Performing Area: Indoors or outdoors (must be in the shade), weather permitting
Requirements: 2-3 8-foot long tables, wireless clip-on microphone for larger audiences, audience preferably seated on the floor with open walkways to let presenter and assistants give everybody the opportunity of a close-up view or touching/handling the critters. Due to the hands-on, interactive nature of the program, library group sizes of 150 or less work best. Auditoriums with built-in seats are fine for a typical slide show, but are less suitable for hands-on, interactive shows.
Fee: Negotiable starting at $250, plus mileage and travel; discounts for multiple and all-day bookings at the same location.
Travel Range: Negotiable, depending on time of year.
June-August: More than 120 miles from St. Paul, multiple or all-day bookings only at the same location or in the same general area.
September-May: Within 120 miles preferred. Travel throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin is possible, although multiple or all-day bookings in the same location or general area are encourage.
