Standards-Related Provisions in State and Federal LawWisconsin Statutes14.017 (3) (a) There is created in the office of the governor a standards development council consisting of all the following: 1. The lieutenant governor, who shall serve as chairperson of the council. 2. A representative of the department of public instruction appointed by the state superintendent of public instruction. 3. The chairpersons of the committees in the assembly and senate whose subject matter is elementary and secondary education or members of those committees designated by the chairpersons. 4. The ranking minority member of each of the committees under subd. 3. or members of those committees designated by the ranking minority member. 5. One member appointed by the governor to serve at the pleasure of the governor. 14.23 STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
(1) By October 14, 1997, the governor shall submit to the standards development council pupil academic standards in mathematics, science, reading and writing, geography and history. The council shall review the standards and may modify them. Within 30 days after October 14, 1997, the council shall transmit its recommended standards to the governor. (2) The governor shall approve or disapprove the recommended standards within 30 days after receiving them under sub. (1). If the governor approves the standards, he or she may issue the approved standards as an executive order. (3) The council shall periodically review the standards issued under sub. (2) and may recommend changes to the governor. If the governor approves the changes he or she may issue them as an executive order. 118.30 PUPIL ASSESSMENT. (1g) (a) 1. By August 1, 1998, each school board shall adopt pupil academic standards in mathematics, science, reading and writing, geography and history. If the governor has issued pupil academic standards as an executive order under s. 14.23, the school board may adopt those standards. 2. By January 1, 2000, or by January 1 of the 1st school year of operation, whichever is later, each operator of a charter school under s. 118.40 (2r) shall adopt pupil academic standards in mathematics, science, reading and writing, geography and history. The operator of the charter school may adopt the pupil academic standards issued by the governor as executive order no. 326, dated January 13, 1998.
