QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER WHEN USING WSAS PROFICIENCY DATA

  • What are the percentages of students who scored at the proficient and advanced levels? How do these percentages compare with prior years? with district or state percentages?
(The long-term goals is for all students to progress to the proficient and advanced levels.)
  • Are there similar schools at higher achievement levels? What can your school community learn from these schools?
  • Are achievement levels at your school comparable across student groups? Are there significant gaps between girls and boys, students of color and white students, students with disabilities and without disabilities, English language learners and English proficient students, economically disadvantaged and other students?
  • How do these gaps compare with prior years? Are the gaps narrowing or widening?
  • How do these percents and gaps vary across grade levels? Are the percents and gaps the same, smaller, or larger at lower or higher grade levels?
  • Are all or nearly all students enrolled in the school tested? To what extent do students in each group at your school participate in statewide testing?

NOTE: For school improvement purposes, the focus is on the proficiency levels (advanced, proficient, basic, or minimal performance) of "Students in this School Full Academic Year." The proficiency of "Students in this School Full Academic Year" provides one indicator of how successful your school community has been in meeting the academic needs of students in this grade up to the time of testing. Results are sorted by gender, race, and other student groups at your school to help ensure that no group of students is left out of your school's improvement efforts. The proficient and advanced levels are the long-term educational goals for all students in every group (including students with severe cognitive disabilities who may be assessed based on Wisconsin Extended Grade Band Standards).
