Wisconsin 2007 Team Nutrition Training Grant
The Wisconsin 2007 Team Nutrition Project uses a multifaceted approach to promote healthy eating and physical activity among school-aged children and youth. This approach includes:
- Nutrition education and training on the Wisconsin nutrition education standards and nutrition curriculum. Included in the trainings will be fun and interactive nutrition education ideas and effective strategies to engage students and parents.
- Pilot implementation of the nutrition education standards in grades K-12.
- Information and training sessions for parents, through parent leadership groups, to promote healthy food choices through parental role modeling.
- Compile a Kid Tested, Family Approved and Classroom Friendly healthy meal and snack idea and recipe book to empower parents and students to meet TN key messages.
- Nutrition services staff training specific to increasing their capacity to meet the USDA HealthierUS Challenge and 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs).
Proposal Goals and Objectives (Obj.)
The 2007 TN Project will promote healthy lifestyles using the TNs behavior-focused strategies:
- Provide training and technical assistance,
- Provide fun and interactive nutrition education, and
- Build school, family and community support for creating healthy school environments that are conducive to healthy eating and physical activity.
The Wisconsin 2007 TN grant addresses the following:
- Trainings and TA on the 2005 DGAs, the MyPyramid and MyPyramid for Kids Food guidance system, whole grains and other nutrition topics to assist elementary schools to take the HealthierUS School Challenge, and for Child Nutrition Program (CNP) foodservice professionals to assist schools as they apply for the challenge;
- Strategies for modeling healthy eating and physical activity by parents, teachers, school administrators, students, foodservice professionals, and community volunteers to promote healthy food choices;
- Developing, testing and implementing nutrition standards and curriculum as part of a state-wide strategy to promote healthy eating and nutrition behaviors;
- Multi-faceted, integrated nutrition education for children and their parents;
- School, family and community support; collaboration; and assessment of the success of the TN Project activities and lessons learned.
