Local Wellness Policy Implementation ProjectMini-Grants Awarded: Summary by School/DistrictYou can read the details of each project by clicking on the name of the school districtAbbotsford School DistrictThe mini-grant allowed Abbotsford Elementary to create visuals in the lunchroom, send their PE teacher to a wellness conference, and bring in an educational performance (Opera of Health) for the entire 4K-12 student body.Beloit School DistrictBeloit School District approached the mini-grant project as an opportunity to educate both the students and the parents on the importance of physical activity in daily life through a health fair and upper elementary track meet.Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau (GET) School DistrictGET Schools used the mini-grant funding to promote healthy lifestyles and positive role-modeling in the district staff through a staff in-service and wellness fair.Janesville School DistrictJanesville School District used the mini-grant to assist in the implementation of competitive food guidelines for the schools.Madison Elementary SchoolMadison Elementary School planned to promote school meals and market nutrition facts and healthy eating at school.McKinley Center, Stevens Point Area School DistrictMcKinley Center incorporated nutrition and health education into the school day as part of their wellness policy implementation. Units on obesity, fat, health risk factors, fruits & vegetables, healthy heart, and cross lateral movements were included in the instruction.Northside Elementary School, Middleton School DistrictAn active parent group and wellness committee partnered with the school nutrition department to educate parents and students on nutrition.Oconto School DistrictOconto School District had a goal to continue to create awareness of the wellness policy.Roosevelt School, Stevens Point Area School DistrictRoosevelt School wellness committee promoted physical activity and nutrition to K through 6th graders.St. Ann School, Somerset School DistrictSt. Ann School used the Team Nutrition Mini-Grant to educate students, staff, parents and food service personnel on nutrition and healthy eating.Spooner School DistrictThe Spooner School District had eight main activities for their Team Nutrition Mini-Grant project.Prairie View Middle School, Sun Prairie Area School DistrictAn active team of students formed the Health Awareness Program (H.A.P.) at Prairie View Middles School.Waupaca School DistrictThe Waupaca School District implemented the 5-2-1-almost none program to coordinate nutrition education between classroom, food service and parents. Waupaca School District was a recipient of a 2007 Governors School Health Award, and the mini-grant activities were prominent on their application.
