WSLS / ISES UPDATE

DATE: September 28, 2007 (Email)
TO: WSLS/ISES Administrators
WSLS/ISES Assistant Administrators
FROM: WSLS/ISES Help Desk
SUBJECT: WSLS / ISES UPDATE

PLEASE DISTRIBUTE THIS MESSAGE TO ALL DISTRICT STAFF WORKING IN WSLS or ISES

WSAS ROSTER FILE #1

Reminder. On Monday October 1 at 4 PM DPI will generate the WSAS roster file #1 that will be used to generate testing labels. WSLS must be current and accurate for the WSAS Roster to be accurate. WSLS will be the primary source of data for the WSAS labels. Out of date or invalid school enrollment periods in WSLS could result in label delivery to the wrong district/school or hand coding of student data. Districts should focus on bringing WSLS up-to-date by the end of this week.

ISES data will also be used if available. September ISES Count Date data need not contain all the ISES data elements that are required for final ISES lock. The WSAS testing contractor will receive a more complete and up to date WSAS Roster file from DPI after final ISES lock in November. However, including current grade level placements in ISES by the end of this week is strongly recommended. Primary disability and English language proficiency codes might also be locally useful and will appear on the labels if these data are available in ISES.

For more information, see http://dpi.wi.gov/lbstat/iseswsas.html

WSLS / ISES AVAILABILITY OCTOBER 1 - 5

In order to facilitate processing of the WSAS roster file #1, the WSLS and ISES will be unavailable beginning 4 PM on Monday October 1st. WSLS and ISES will reopen after the WSAS Roster File generation is successful.

OCTOBER 1 COUNT OF SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS

Reminder. State statute requires the count date for enrollment data to be the third Friday in September. However, to meet requirements of the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) annual report required by section 618 of the Act and 34 CFR 300.640, the State must count and report the number of children with disabilities receiving special education and related services on a date between October 1 and December 1. Wisconsin has chosen October 1 as its count date.

For the 2007-08 school year, districts will submit changes which occurred after 9/21/2007 and on or before 10/1/2007 for those students with disabilities who have moved into or left the district, those students whose disability status has changed, and those students whose Educational Environment Classification changed because the student turned 6.

Note that an error regarding 'Exit Date' was discovered in the original email, September 12, 2007 . This has been corrected in the on-line correspondence link. Detailed information regarding the October 1 Count of Student with Disabilities is available from the Correspondence link, http://dpi.wi.gov/lbstat/esea091207.html.

Thank you for your patience and your continued efforts.
