WSLS/ISES Assistant Administrators
FROM: WSLS/ISES Help Desk
SUBJECT: WSLS/ISES Update

PLEASE DISTRIBUTE THIS MESSAGE TO ALL DISTRICT STAFF WORKING IN WSLS or ISES

ISES FALL TRAINING REMINDER

The Department of Public Instruction will hold ISES training sessions at each of the twelve CESAs in August. This training is intended for local staff responsible for data entry and data review in the ISES. You may register in whichever CESA is most convenient by contacting the CESA directly.

The presentation materials for the August training sessions will be available at http://dpi.wi.gov/lbstat/iseshand07c.html.

As some knowledge of ISES will be a prerequisite to this training, a separate online presentation, 'Getting Started with the ISES', should be reviewed by new staff prior to attending an August training session.

ISES ON-LINE TRAINING OPPORTUNITY - 'SUMMER 2006 GETTING STARTED WITH THE ISES'

An on-line training session is available covering the basic functions of the ISES to introduce first-time users and to refresh experienced users. The session will provide a brief background of WSLS and ISES, an overview of data entry and validation in the ISES and the steps to finalize and submit data to DPI. The on-line training session is presented in three recorded segments. The presentation handout is available at http://dpi.wi.gov/lbstat/iseshand07b.html.

WSLS MASS STUDENT EXIT FUNCTION DEBUT

A new WSLS function, Mass Student Exit, is available on the WSLS Main Menu. This function allows a group of students to be exited simultaneously. User document is not yet available for this function, but it is similar to Mass Student Transfer Request excluding the 'Transfer To' selection. Refer to the WSLS User Manual Chapter 12 - Mass Student Transfer Request and the On-Line Tutorial 12 - Mass Student Transfer Request for more information.

STUDENTS WITH MULTIPLE WISCONSIN STUDENT NUMBERS

The Help Desk has processed all duplicate WSNs reported by districts to date. Email confirmation was provided once correction was complete. If you have not received notification for duplicates submitted to DPI, please resubmit the WSN or WSNs. As duplicates are discovered, http://dpi.wi.gov/lbstat/wslsdupl.html describes the steps to be taken by a district to identify and submit such students to the DPI for correction.

We are beginning to contact districts in which we believe unreported duplicates exist. Correction of such duplicates will take cooperation between all districts involved. Removing duplicates has many positive benefits such as improving dropout rates and reducing data entry burden.

HELPDESK EXPERT TOOL

We have implemented a new tool to aide in providing support for our web applications. The Helpdesk Expert Tool will help in efficiently providing help to school districts for data collections. Over time the HelpDesk Expert Tool will be incorporated into existing DPI applications.

From the web link above, you can log in to the Helpdesk Expert tool, access the screen to set up a new account, retrieve a lost password, or view documentation/instruction for using the tool. When you select the Helpdesk Expert icon while in an application, it will open a new web page browser so you will not lose your position in the application.

To begin using this tool you must set up your User Account. You may set this to be the same as your WAMS user ID and password.

WSLS/ISES AVAILABILITY 7/30/06

The Department of Administration will be performing maintenance which may cause disruption in authentication of WAMS IDs. The WSLS and ISES may be unavailable during this time, 4 A.M. to 10 A.M., Sunday, July 30th.

Please do not hesitate to contact the WSLS/ISES helpdesk if you have questions or concerns, 800-507-5744 or Help Desk Expert On-line Tool.
