WSLS / ISES Update

DATE: June 14, 2007 (Email)
TO: WSLS/ISES Administrators
WSLS/ISES Assistant Administrators
FROM: WSLS/ISES Help Desk
SUBJECT: WSLS/ISES Update

PLEASE DISTRIBUTE THIS MESSAGE TO ALL DISTRICT STAFF WORKING IN WSLS or ISES

NEW ISES COUNT DATE AND YEAR END DATA ELEMENTS

A presentation has been created to provide an overview of the changes to ISES and WSLS scheduled for this summer and fall. To view the entire presentation and accompanying textual notes, print the presentation using the 'Notes Pages' option. New data elements will be introduced and minor changes to existing code sets will be made.

Two new populations of students will be gathered in the WSLS and ISES to accommodate the consolidation of the Child Count application into the ISES and meet new OSEP reporting requirements. WSLS enrollment records and ISES Year End and Count Date records will be required for small group of private school students known as 'Parentally Placed Private.' 'Parentally Placed Private' is an indication of a student placed by a parent or guardian in a private school who receives special education or related services from the submitting district that meet state standards under a service plan. Also, the Department of Corrections and the Department of Health and Family Services will be added as valid WSLS and ISES Districts and will submit WSLS and ISES records.

WSLS UPDATE - BIRTH LOCATION

Districts should update existing WSLS records to include Birth State. Ideally birth location will be provided for new student enrollment records, but at a minimum it must be provided for students born outside the US for whom enrollment is expected in the 2007-08 school term. The Birth State 'Other', code 'ZZ', identifies birth location outside the US and US territories. Birth State will be used in future ISES collections to determine Immigrant Status as defined for EDEN. The US Territories are now available and may be submitted for File Upload and Individual Student Entry in the WSLS.

STUDENTS WITH DUPLICATE WSNS

We continue to do work on the removal of duplicate WSNs. If you receive an email from DPI requesting assistance in the resolution of a potential duplicate, please respond to the email, but do not change the data in WSLS. DPI will work with all districts involved and determine which WSN to keep based on data provided by districts and existing information in the WSLS and ISES. DPI will notify the districts involved of which WSN was kept when the deletion is complete. We have a list of a nearly 4,000 potential duplicates. Your timely response to our email is appreciated.

HELP DESK

During the summer months we are asking that you use the Help Desk Expert Software with your questions and concerns related to WSLS and ISES issues. You can also find instructions for establishing an account for the tool on this same page.
