Granting Access to Wisconsin Student Number Locator System (WSLS)

Subject:	Granting Access to Wisconsin Student Number Locator System (WSLS)

In preparation for implementation of the WSLS in May/June 2004, Districts and 2R Charter Schools will be responsible for appointing and granting authority to staff supporting the Wisconsin Student Number Locator System (WSLS). In keeping with DPI's commitment to protecting student privacy, the process of granting authority to appropriate staff begins at the highest level in the school district.

If you are a School District Administrator (Superintendent) or Non-district Charter School Administrator:

__ If you do not have a Wisconsin User ID, register for a Wisconsin User ID
__ Send Name, District or Charter School, Wisconsin User ID (not password) and Email to dpistats@dpi.wi.gov
__ Appoint a WSLS/ISES Administrator
__ Have the WSLS/ISES Administrator give you their Wisconsin User ID (not password)
__ Log into DPI's Delegated Authority application (https://www2.dpi.wi.gov/wams-da/home.do)
__ In the application, delegate authority to your WSLS/ISES Administrator by entering their Wisconsin User ID
__ Notify your WSLS/ISES Administrator that they can now access the Delegated Authority application.

Notes:

1) If your WSLS/ISES Administrator should leave the district or leave that position, enter the delegated Authority application to change your choice of the WSLS/ISES Administrator. The person assigned to the role of WSLS/ISES Administrator in the Delegated Authority application will control access to student data in the WSLS.

2) If at any time, the School District Administrator (Superintendent) or Non-district Charter School Administrator should leave the district or the position, the new School District Administrator (Superintendent) or Non-district Charter School Administrator needs to complete the first two steps of the above process.

If you are a WSLS/ISES Administrator:

__ If you do not have a Wisconsin User ID, register for a Wisconsin User ID
__ Give your Wisconsin User ID to your School District Administrator
__ Receive notification from your School District Administrator that you can access the Delegated Authority application.
__ Obtain a list of the Wisconsin User IDs of all staff members who will need access to the WSLS Web Application.
__ Determine what level of access each user should have (for role info see: dpi.wi.gov/lbstat/wsnauth.html)
__ Log into DPI's Delegated Authority application with your Wisconsin User ID (https://www2.dpi.wi.gov/wams-da/home.do)
__ Assign a role and level of access to each staff member who will be accessing the WSLS web application on behalf of your school district (including yourself). Only those users who have been assigned roles via the Delegated Authority application will be able to access the WSLS application. You will need each person's Wisconsin User ID to assign roles.
__ Notify WSLS users that they can now access the WSLS application.

Note: If any staff member leaves the district, enter the Delegated Authority application and remove their access to WSLS.

If you are a WSLS User:

__ If you do not have a Wisconsin User ID, register for a Wisconsin User ID
__ Give your Wisconsin User ID to your district's WSLS/ISES Administrator
__ Receive notification from your district's WSLS/ISES administrator that you can access the WSLS.
