The Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD) is a residential school for deaf and hard of hearing students from throughout the state of Wisconsin. WSD operates under the direction of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and provides educational services for deaf and hard of hearing students ages 3 to 21. WSD has an average annual enrollment of 180 students in grades pre-K through 12th. WSD stresses quality of service to students and parents. We focus on meeting the needs of students with disabilities in the areas of academic, adaptive education, vocational and social skills development.
The Department of Public Instruction, Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD) is currently seeking a part time Deaf Education Teacher. This position is located at 309 W. Walworth Avenue, Delavan. This is a part-time school year (44%) position.
Starting pay is $19.336 per hour, plus excellent benefits. Plus additional compensation up to $2.97 per hour may be given for credits relevant to the position beyond a Bachelor's degree. This position is in pay schedule 13, range 05. A twelve-month probationary period is required.
Job Duties
This position will provide classroom instruction for K-12 deaf children and/or multiply handicapped deaf children. Plan and supervise extra-curricular activities as contracted for in a residential school. Instruction includes preparation of materials and planning outside of class time as well as individual and group instruction during assigned work hours.

Part of the selection process will include a criminal background check.
Special Requirement:
Licensed or eligibile for a license in Deaf or Hard of Hearing (805), by the Department of Public Instruction is required. Questions regarding licensure may be directed to DPI licensing staff at 608-266-1879.
An American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) rating level of 2+ upon hire and 3 upon completion of probation is required.
Sign language skills will be evaluated during the interview process.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of classroom/student behavior management techniques; the implications of deafness on learning; confidentiality laws; methods for maintaining work relationships with staff and parents; and current instructional materials used with hearing impaired students. Skill in organizing a learning conductive environment; assessing student academic skills; and cooperative work effort. An ASLPI rating level of 2+ upon hire and 3 by the end of probation.
