The Department of Public Instruction, Office of Educational Accountability is currently seeking individuals for an Education Consultant position. The ideal candidate for this position will have previous experience using a broad range of education data to improve student achievement and previous experience on project teams. This position is located at 125 South Webster Street, Madison.
Starting pay is between $27.181 and $38.317 per hour (approximately $56,753 and $80,005 per year). This position is in pay schedule 13, range 04.
This is a project position that will end on February 28, 2013. This position is eligible for benefits including health insurance, but the incumbent does not attain permanent civil service status.
Job Duties
This position provides education consultant expertise, data analysis, business analysis, and project support for the Wisconsin Longitudinal Data System Project (LDS). The LDS is a data warehouse that can be used by department employees as well as school administrators, teachers and staff. It assists the state in generating accurate and timely data to meet reporting requirements while also being easier and more efficient for school districts. The LDS concentrates education data and improves its presentation, which assists decision making at the state, district, school and classroom levels. Finally, the LDS facilitates the research needed to help eliminate achievement gaps and improve learning of all students.
This position will work under the direction of the Assistant Director of the Office of Educational Accountability and in partnership with the LDS Project Manager. The responsibilities are accomplished as a member of the LDS Project Team and by working collaboratively with the schools, districts, CESA's, higher education and other DPI program areas. This position will be required to communicate with educators, technical team members, administrators, researchers, and policy makers on state and national levels.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of K-16 education systems, including special education, and the issues faced by schools and districts today; educational research concepts and methods; statistical and database applications such as Excel, InfoMaker, and/or SPSS with large data sets; and federal and state laws and guidelines that protect student privacy and guide the use of educational data in research. Skilled in organizing and managing information and projects; and working in Information Technology Projects and an understanding of project constraints like schedule and budget. Ability to accurately and clearly summarize and communicate complex ideas or data in tables, plots, or text. Excellent command of conventions of written and oral communication.
