Learning Through Service Program Coordinator

The Anytown School District is seeking applicants to assume leadership of its Learning Through Service (LTS) program. The LTS program emphasizes youth empowerment and community involvement. The Learning Through Service Program Coordinator will:
- Work with faculty to implement service learning in the classroom by helping teachers develop and adapt current curriculum, leading and co-teaching classroom lessons, educating and training faculty in the field of service-learning, and building relationships and providing resources to K-12 teachers as a step toward system-wide integration.
- Oversee all aspects of the District's community service requirement including tracking individual students' hours, counseling students for quality service site placements and coordinating all communication with students and their parents regarding the LTS requirement.
- Recruit and maintain an advisory committee of faculty, students, parents and community leaders to evaluate the program and develop long-term plans.
- Serve as a community liaison for the high school and the Anytown School District for the purpose of identifying sites for individual student service-learning placements and larger, multi-student project sites. Work with local businesses and community leaders that are
interested in exploring new ways to connect students with the community and bring the community into the schools.
- Coordinate all aspects of public relations on behalf of the LTS program, including contacting local media about service projects, working with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to promote service learning throughout the state, and presenting the success of Anytown Schools at various workshops and conferences.
- Research funding opportunities and write grants for ongoing funding of service-learning and related activities.
Qualifications
We are seeking an independent, self-motivated individual with strong oral and written communication skills. Applicants must have knowledge and understanding of service-learning as a teaching methodology. The successful candidate must also have a college degree; experience in program management and development, preferably in the field of service programs and youth development; direct experience working with youth; ability to make presentations at public meetings and conferences; and experience in grant writing and reporting. Experience as a teacher/trainer of adults and/or youth is also preferred.
